Forestry Training Academy

Te Whare Ako is the unique Tāne Mahuta house of learning. Studies in Tikanga Māori and Hauora Oranganui (health & well-being) boosts theory and practice in our forestry training curriculum that encourages tauira/students to master their craft and abilities.

LWYE™ Learn While You Earn

Tauira (cadets) can learn and earn as they work on their own whenua. Tauira experience kinesthetic on-the-job training as well as theory in-class assessments and some on-line learning while they are earning.

NZ Certificate in Forestry Operations Level 3 & 4

Our ākonga achieve forestry qualifications on the LWYE™ programme. They gain access to the ngahere and are able to work in a silviculture or harvesting crew. Advanced studies in management, technology and administration are also available.

Ko te reo Māori me ngā tikanga o te Ngahere he kaupapa ako e whakatairanga i te ākonga me önā herenga ki tönā reo Māori me āna tikanga ngahere.

Tauira / Learners connect with Te Āo Māori while developing a meaningful appreciation for the ngahere (forest). Learning basic te reo Māori and tikanga builds their confidence to harness principles and values of the Tāne Mahuta LWYE™ programme.

DTRU

Drug Testing and Rehabilitation Unit. Prior to gaining any job, employers expect drug-free job seekers. There are some who may not pass, at first. DTRU prepares keen and potential workers in our specially tailored rehabilitation programme.

Our Health and Safety Manual is current and complies with the Forestry Approved Code of Practice (ACOP). Tāne Mahuta Forestry is a Safetree Certified Contractor.

Rongoa Māori

Tāne Mahuta Forestry aims to contribute rongoa Māori knowledge science. Known for its medicinal remedies and healing properties, native herbs are also used for tonics, teas, mirimiri (massage), well-being and spiritual essence.

Kaitiakitanga o te Ao / Environmental Management

Tāne Mahuta Forestry applies kaitiakitanga values and principles that minimises risk to the environment. Planting programme includes vasculars (mānuka, rongoa), riparian (coastal  species and setback), native (indigenous) and plantation pine (carbon farming).
